First, I would say is be prepared. I make sure I have done everything I can do to be ready. I go over notes. I read the textbooks. I don't stay up late into the night. I do one final review the night before and then I go to bed early to be fresh and ready in the morning.
I avoid sedatives. They can make you sleepy and forgetful. You need to do what the doctor suggests but I inform the doctor that I will not be taking any sedatives the night before the test. I still take my sleep medication but I go to bed early to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
I eat a good breakfast. This will help you stay awake and alert. Don't overeat. If you drink coffee on a regular basis make sure you stick with that routine. If you have tests in the afternoon do not skip on lunch but again don't overeat.
After that just breathe... Slow down and try to relax... Panic will not help you so if that is something you deal with try to distract yourself... Listen to music... Go for a walk... Whatever works best for you...
