In crisis, I took more lorazepam than prescribed for a couple weeks in an attempt to keep stuff manageable so I could stay out of the hospital. Maybe 3 pills per day instead of half or one? It worked for a week or two. I found out later that the hospital folks labeled me a substance abuser! Thank goodness my real doctors could see reality.
