I agree. It took leaving the highschool scene and leaving home to break this.
Incidentally, when I returned for a highschool reunion there was a stark difference between those of us who had moved on and those who had remained behind. We who went our different ways seemed to have grown up. We socialized amongst the group regardless of our prior social standing. Meanwhile, those that stayed behind were still set in there cliques - the popular girls were still mean and stayed within their now shrunken group. The popular boys too were still in that demeaning state of social hierarchy. So very, very sad.
Hang on and time will take it's course. In the meantime you don't have to be a social butterfly and having a foot in the door of more than one clique is always a good thing.
