My experience was much like lolagrace's. I do have to say there are two different mental hospitals in my city. One is run privately and is quiet nice and the other is state run and very rough (having heard this from a family member who had to spend months in there. Unfortunately someone was even killed there). My experience only comes from the privately owned. You see the psychiatrist affiliated with the hospital, usually not your own individual one. When they discharged me they made sure to have appointments set up for me with my therapist and psychiatrist and usually there is no follow up from the hospital from that point on once you are discharged. My only request would have been to let my personal psychiatrist see me every day since he knows my history and has been with me for a long time.
