Yes is it a lot to ask. The Admin appoint the Mods and they do it because they need the help to run the site well. All the mods need to be able to contact all the members when necessary as part of their "duty". The software, in many places is an all-or-nothing affair; you can have all mods or none; they can't turn off a mod just for a single member's benefit.
