I just found out yesterday that my husbands grandmother passed away. I don't know the details yet and didn't even know she was ill. I will hopefully find out more tomorrow.

This hurts....I so wish I could be with Florin during this time of sadness and loss. He spent his summers with his grandparents growing up on the farm. He was very close to his grandma and I know his heart is hurting right now.

Being so very far away really sucks and even more at times like this. I got to meet his grandma a couple of years ago and was struck by how life had hardened her and aged her before her time. Living in the small towns of Romania, life is difficult....even though it's the only life she's ever known and never complained because she knew no different.

She had beautiful blue eyes.....they danced when she smiled. She cooked a nice meal for us (we showed up unexpectedly) and seemed very happy that Florin came to visit and brought me too. I don't think she had ever met anyone from the US before. Since I don't really speak Romanian, we couldn't communicate much. But I do remember the look on her face and a smile from ear to ear when I thanked her for the meal in Romanian and also mentioned that her homemade wine was "foarte buna" (very good)!

While our time together was short, I feel blessed to have met her.
