My friend just did a similar thing and I went to the hospital with her. The ER docs instructions were to keep the bandaging on for 3 days. Then she was supposed to put on neosporin everyday for a few days to prevent infection. I think they took the stitches out ten days later.

Those were the instructions for her, I'm not sure if they'd be the same for you though.
