I want to share an article given to me by a mentor while I was in college. It really stuck with me because it widened my perspective of mental illness as I was still trying to process my own experience with the mental health system in America. I believe this is important because western culture can insulate us and encourage an inflexible view of what is normal and what is abnormal. An inflexible view can be damaging, keeping us from much needed compassion for ourselves and others.

I hope this bit of journalism can help someone else heal, as it did me.
