I have discovered that I act extremely averse to risk (even small ones), and focus too much on loss prevention (eg. saving money I have rather than making more money, for one example). This is a kind of "limited resource mentality". The people I would like to emulate seem to have a mentality based on seeking opportunities, taking more (reasonable) risks and acquiring experiences, social connections and resources. Their minds seem to expect a world of opportunities and are driven to pursue these aggressively (in a positive sense) and optimistically.

I BADLY want to change my mindset. I recognize that the one I have is causing me endless problems and needs to be changed! I swear, I catch myself acting like a small lizard who lives in a fairly barren desert, surrounded by much bigger lizards who are liable to get all the scarce resources first. This is beyond annoying!!!

How does one do this? In fact, how do you catch yourself thinking in this limited style? I know it is there, but it is difficult to catch yourself in the act because conscious awareness of it is quite limited.
