It's not a given that they will like it or have to like it if they take the time to understand it, no. After all, pedophilia is 'different' but we understand the danger there; after further understanding we come to realize there's some justification to the dislike there (of course, I'd argue they're not monsters in the sense that everyone believes, but that's a whole other discussion for a different day). But overwhelmingly the initial impulse seems to be to react in frustration or fear or revulsion, no matter what the different person or thing is. Again, within reason--exceptions; always exceptions.
