The publicity industry is extraordinarily competitive and sadly lacking in new ideas. Therefore sensationalism and misinformation are the order of the day. And of course this only aggravates to the cynicism and short attention span of the audience, so advertisers have to be even more sensational and misleading. And so on round the loop.
What they'll do when the audience stops listening altogether is anyone's guess. Break into our homes, I suspect.
