Three o'clock in the morning actually has a deeper significance if you care to believe. It has different names but it is "the demonic hour" as Jesus Christ was crucified at three in the afternoon, so like turning a crucifix upside down represents the devil, 3am the opposite of Jesus being killed is the devils hour, just to be perverse. So I would speculate the spiritual world is more accessible then. So, waking up may mean you are afraid of that otherness. Just an alternative view for you to consider. It may be old fish wife's tale......who knows
