It's pretty common for trauma survivors to minimize what they've been through in order to cope. Family and friends often reinforce this minimization by telling survivors that they're "too sensitive" and that others have had to deal with worse. Feeling unloved and chronically hurt is very serious for a child and can have lifelong consequences. I hope you have a good therapist you can explore these issues with if you choose.
