Looking at old pictures of me of fun times helps me. My kids make fun of me, but in the hallway upstairs, I have three collages of pictures of me (and my sister) as kids. Remembering those times help me know that that time passed and so will this time, but in the same way, I'm still the same me I've always been. Its soothing.
