Bipolar is a wild animal I've lived with it for almost 20 years and I still don't know all I probably could or should about it.
Some forms on the bipolar spectrum possess some traditional symptoms, others do not.
Bipolar II experiences more depressions and hypomanias where they fell good! GREAT! but not TOOO GREAT... and even angry!
There is a lot of anger in bipolar.
Bipolar I has the same depression (just not as much as BPII throughout their lives), as well as hypomania. Big difference is that in BPI we do go too far up which can lead to joyous life mistakes, unending rage or even full-on psychosis.
Another, often not talked about form on the bipolar spectrum, is cyclothymia; where the individual tends to remain within the proximity of the baseline - never moving too far up or down. These people experience dysthymic and dysphoric depressions which are not full-blown depressive episodes; similarly, their ups are nowhere close (in intensity) to BPI or BPII. That said, their mood swings tend to last a hell of a lot longer and thus bring continued suffering to the cyclothymic person.
