I knew my diagnosis was BP II before my pdoc had confirmed this.
As CANDC has shared in her post above, there are variations of BPI and BPII.

cmorales gave a great explanation between BPI, BP2 and cyclothymia.

If you feel your diagnosis is in error, or have questions as to how you fulfill the criteria, please do ask your pdoc. Your pdoc should be able to be very specific in answering you. (I'd asked my pdoc this because I'd wanted to know how he was seeing things.)
