Just a quick comment because we have very different opinions on this. While amandalouise's opinion is valid, this has not been my experience. I have been diagnosed with DID. Prior to that diagnosis, I've been diagnosed by different treatment providers with (amongst other things):
Antisocial personality disorder
Borderline personality disorder
Dependent personality disorder
Histrionic personality disorder
Paranoid personality disorder
Schizoid personality disorder
Schizotypal personality disorder
Schizophrenia
Bipolar...
and those are just the ones I can think of that they got wrong. Just because a treatment provider dumps a label on you doesn't mean it fits. Too many of us around here have been harmed by treatment providers who went into psychology to escape their own demons and rushed a diagnosis.
