Trust the all-knowing treatment provider!

It does sound like dissociation to me. I can totally relate to what you've written--I've had those types of experiences at a previous job when I was under a great deal of stress. I'm really glad you and your doctor have taken steps to rule out physical causes.
I would say educate yourself as much as you can. It is possible to find reliable information out there and weed out the crap. It just takes diligence. Use what you learn to "test" your treatment providers. Ask questions. Most importantly __find someone experienced and trained to work with dissociative disorders__.
I can't stress this enough. Ask them what their qualifications are. Your mental health is worth it.
