I don't understand wanting to take away from people who already have so little, are struggling to survive, or who suffered losses, such as health. It makes me sad for our country, shocked, and angry.
I don't see payments to those who can't work-or to those who have never worked-as any different from other types of 'welfare'. I pay taxes to subsidize the education of children for those who decide to have 6 kids. Childless people are paying for it just the same-how is that different than paying towards benefits for those who never worked? When you buy a bus ticket, you are paying for the bus driver's healthcare and the CEOs six figure salary. When we pay monthly insurance contributions, we are payig for the healthcare of others, for those who use it more.. Those who don't drive pay taxes to have snow removed from the streets. I don't see how paying a specific tax makes it makes a difference.
I think it does make a difference that certain things are labeled welfare while others are not. A portion of most every dollar we spend or earn, goes to someone else's benefit, including the very rich.
