It's a bit OT but I wanted to say something about welfare benefits for mothers. Some people are under the impression that there are still women who are having multiple kids, collecting checks and just sitting around. The system used to be like that, but not since 1996. Now, in order to receive Families First benefits, the parent must be working or actively looking for work, or enrolled in school...and there is a 5 year cap on it per the lifetime of the parent.
The only exception to this is if the parent is already on SSI or SSDI, then they don't have to fulfill the working requirements and there is no cap(and it's not that much money. about $200/month if you already have income).
Of course this doesn't apply to SNAP. I meant cash benefits , because some seem to think there's people out there having kids to make a living. Um, no.
