Locking up meds is a great idea.
When the house is full of people, during holiday gatherings and other activities, our meds also go into the lockbox and into a locked filing cabinet drawer. This may seem excessive; yet, I also have morphine and dilaudid on hand. We have nieces and nephews of all ages. We are concerned not only about meds being taken, but accidental overdoses with the children/teens.
There's a fair amount of substance abuse in our families. There are a few siblings we are not sure we'd trust with meds.
(We also use a lockbox while traveling. I won't get into the procedures we follow while traveling with meds.)
Someone could walk away with a small lockbox. They aren't going to walk away with a filing cabinet.
