That rings a bell. "Patient abandonment" aka "Patient dumping," I believe.
As far as I know, a doctor must help you find someone to prescribe. Where I live, we are short on pdocs and when one retires, s/he consults with the GP/Primary Care, asking them to take over prescribing. It's a formal process with a clear outcome. There is either agreement to take over care or there isn't. (Patients can muck up this process by not agreeing/complying.)
If I were in your shoes, I would try to get in with another pdoc at the office.
