Bebop you beat me to it. I made a winnie warmer years ago. I used pink wool, The balls were done separate with snaps to hook on. I put a bell on the tip and did a reverse single crotchet which made a very realistic "edge" It did have two strings for tying on but they were detachable so two more sections could be added and the balls moved down. It was a joke for my ex husband who was travelling quite a ways one weekend with his buddies to ski. Every so many miles he got a present to open. First was Black forest cake slice, then pepperonei sticks and one of the sections. I can'[t remember now but as he got to the cold weather He got the weinnie warmer with the bell to find his way home.
