I just got back from court, where a jerkwad lawyer tried to insist that a little 6-year-old girl with nothing to gain by lying was lying about something somebody did to her.

I have zero respect for this guy in the first place, because he's one of those "well, it depends on what you mean by 'it'" lawyers and will object to somebody who says it's Tuesday and the sky is blue, you know what I mean? He's a hack, in other words. And he's a hack close to retirement who really should just give it up now.

This little girl was so young that it's illegal in this state to let her in the courtroom to testify and be cross-examined. A police officer and a social worker talked to her and they videotaped it.

I just want to know, what the hell does this guy think he's doing by disbelieving a little kid? Kids don't lie about this stuff. The judge had the sense to say there was "overwhelming evidence" to send the creep to trial. And yet his lawyer kept trying to malign a poor little kid. What makes him any less of an abuser?

Some days, I really hate my job.
