In chat, you can ignore a person. I believe you right-click on their name and click 'Ignore' or there is some button to press if you highlight their name, something like that. Ignoring a person in chats puts their name in italics, and you can't see anything they write. I don't know how to put people on ignore in the forums, since luckily I haven't needed to do it .
