I started this assignment early last week, since I knocked out last week's individual assignment so quickly.

After I finish my last 4 classes (counting this one), I am thinking about going on to get my doctorate. The school I am at now has a doctorate in educational technology that looks interesting. I asked my current adviser sime questions about it and he said he was only an adviser for master's degrees and connected me to an admissions rep for the doctoral program. Based on my program completion date, I could start my doctorate in January. The only thing that scares me about the doctoral program is that it is 3 and a half years long and requires annual residencies for a week. The only places to choose from for the week residency is Arlington, VA or Phoenix, AZ. Both are rather far from me and I am responsible for travel and hotel while I am there. Though VA would be a lot closer than AZ to FL. Both would cost me about the same when I did a price estimate based on proces now (which I know could change a lot by the time I was needing places for real). Hotels are cheaper in Phoenix than Arlington, but the plane ticket is more to Phoenix than Arlington. So really it just balances out. The plan part scares me too, but both are too far to drive to. I don't know if I would rent a car or use public transportation. I guess it depends on how much public transportation is available and the cost. That is still about a year away though, so I don't know why I am thinking about it now. I guess it is just good to think about these requirements before starting the degree program. But I have about 20 weeks left in my current program, so I still have a bit of time to decide.

Arlington also has really good public transportation so you could stay further outside of the area and use the metro to get from your hotel to wherever the residency is for lower cost

Something else to consider is Amtrak (if you're close enough to a station). It's not sketchy and is typically less than a plane ticket.

I live close enough to DC that H and I usually go 3-4 times a year for events or the museums.
Thanks for this!
