Weird thing happened at work, I'm okay, but some of us were frightened.
I work teaching individual kids in their homes.
Possible trigger:
At my session last night, someone rang the doorbell. My client's mom came down stairs and told him not to answer the door, that it was a stranger, then returned back up stairs. So I'm left with this poor kid as the man at the door starts banging on the door and shouting, louder and louder, even rattling the walls for the next 20 minutes. He called my client's name and told him to open the door, at which point this kid thought it was his dad. This guy also shouted that he was going to call the police and other things I couldn't hear. My poor client was so afraid and confused and his mom didn't even come down stairs but just told him to stay with me. So I take him to the playroom and he asked me for hugs, and I kept him focused on some fun activities and comforted him as much as possible. Ugh. Meanwhile, my parts are scared, my breath is shallow, I've got a splitting headache and an upset stomach. Afterward, the kid's mom hardly even acknowledged the event, besides checking to see if the door was damaged (there was a crack in the frame) and giving a glib apology. I also had these fierce protective impulses, like I'm not entirely sure what I would have done if the guy got in the house, yelling like that.
So this evening I'm going back to work, and I haven't been entirely successful at assuring my little ones that everyone will be safe. My supervisor is showing up though, to talk to the mom. Ugh.
I'm not sure what kind of response I'm looking for. I guess anything.
