So get this. I have been working on getting a job on my college campus. I have been depressed and discouraged for awhile about the whole job hunting thing thinking that I'm not worth anything to a prospective employer. I've been depressed all weekend over over thinking about my future and my goals and needs and what not.

Anyways, come Monday, I went up to the college campus to finish a draft to an essay that's due later this week since I have such difficulties focusing at home. Since I also had a therapy session later that day and I'm so dependent on the buses and it takes me over an hour to get home I figured "screw it" I have time to kill so let me try to improve my resume.

I put a couple of hours of solid work into making my resume the best that I possibly could and I took it in to the student help place to get it looked at and see if I could possibly improve it further. The person who was looking at it who was a student employee seemed to be having trouble knowing how to improve it so she goes and grabs her manager (the person who is also in charge of hiring in that section of the school). The manager flat out told me that my resume was one of the best out of all of the student resumes that she has seen. She also claimed that many students who have actually found jobs on campus did so with resumes that couldn't even complete with mine. Keep in mind, this was an older lady and not a student who looks and sounds like she has a lot of experience with this sort of thing so her words carry a lot of weight; especially considering that she didn't seem too hopeful when I first came in there to get help a month ago.

That's not all. The next day (today), I see a sign in one of the tutoring places in the school that claims they are hiring both tutors and people to work at the front desk. I go in to talk to the manager there about it and at first I was a little nervous, but I forced myself somehow to remain calm and talk to him like a human. We got to know each other a bit on a personal level after finding out that he's also a student who is in the same major as me. I pulled out a hard copy of my resume and let him look at it and he said that he is impressed with my resume and told me to apply next week when the jobs post on the web site and that he would be keeping an eye out for my application and bringing me in for an interview. He flat out told me that he thinks I have a very good shot of getting a job there by the Fall.

For the first time in awhile, I feel like I actually have some value to other people as a human being. I overcame a significant barrier which was talking to hiring managers and the resume thing. Speaking of resumes, I pulled off getting the perfect resume together without lying in any way! I included some things that I didn't think would be relevant since I wouldn't have been able to provide references for them or verify that I did them but hey, two managers can't be wrong!

I am more emboldened than ever before now.
