Cranberry pills have helped me in the past. Cystex has some snazzy antibacterial/mild painkiller combo that I take when I do something that increases the risk of getting a UTI which seems to help so far as prevention. (The painkiller doesn't really work. At least not as much as AZO/Pyridine.) It's useful to stockpile these things because having one UTI increases the risk of contracting more at a later date, and it sucks to wait around for a doctor.
That said, if you have symptoms such as blood in urine again, that definitely requires medical attention. Don't try to throw home cures at it when it's that bad.
