Well, I make horror movies and while these films serve a purpose, none of you are my target audience. I'd honestly prefer you never see my films. Anyone feeling vulnerable should avoid them.

But I can speak to why normal people like them. Part of our psychology is to rehearse real life situations. It's why "play" is an important part of life. The role of stories is to allow us to go through someone else's experience so we can learn various lessons and process a variety of emotional responses. In the case of horror or suspense, it's a way to confront the various aspects of mortal danger and the fear of the unknown.

Why I enjoy writing/making horror is because it's an outlet for all the terrible things I've experienced (or at the very least, imagined). It lets the demons out, so to speak.

So don't watch horror movies if you're not up to it.

But I love 'em.
