Think of it as a "cap". Latuda is approved to treat anything from mild mania (aka "hypomania") UP TO full-blown mania. So the bipolar 1 indication is just a cap.
I'm sure there are some meds out there approved to treat only hypomania. I'd probably have to spend a lot of time googling to find them, though.

I was thinking it might be that type II isn't bad enough to bring out the big guns, but your explanation makes sense. But just because it makes sense doesn't mean I won't get the run around from the insurance company when I get a prescription instead of samples. I am pretty certain that (a prescription) will happen; she said the samples were to makes sure I tolerated it. It will be too soon to know about the effectiveness. So unless I get a tremor or tick in the next few days, I will likely be on it.
