I just read something on the Web which said that Elavil (amytryptyline [sp.?]) is the best-indicated antidepressant for "agitated depression", which sounds exactly like what I have. (anger and irritability as primary symptoms; also I've tried almost all the SSRIs and gotten minimal benefits, which would confirm that dynamic in my mind.)

My question is (I'm not on anything right now, and not under the care of a psychiatrist), how do I approach someone with an idea of what I want to take already, especially as it is an older medication? I've done things like that in the past and not gotten very far, as I get the impression mental health "pros" don't like it when clients self-diagnose. Thanks for your help
