Focusing on my breathing has really helped control my anxiety, especially when it is severe. It also prevents full-blown panic attacks, because it distracts me from the scary thoughts.

Whenever I feel very anxious, but not panicky, I go for long walks.

I also carry polished stones in my pocket.
