Obtaining new friends is a very healthy thing to do. It means expanding your interests, experiences, and will impact your goals.
As mentioned above, jumping into university is not necessary to improving oneself. But consider ways to still occupy yourself. Doing so will teach you some valuable skills and work ethic. By the time your acquaintances come out of school you won't just be ahead financially, you will likely have your feet solidly on the ground and could even be more rounded. Indeed, going straight into the workforce has its benefits too.
If you are struggling with what on earth to do or what direction to take, seek out your school guidance counsellor once you return to studies this Fall. They will have a wealth of tools and resources to help you make some decisions.
Have you a summer job? It is a bit late to find one but they are still out there. I recommend you look for one. Should this be fruitless, consider then volunteering. In fact summer is a perfect time to do so what with special events and festivals during the season. This will not just be something to add to your resume but is a fabulous way to make new friends, open your horizons, and even establish new interests.
I realise this sounds tough to do. I assure you though that after that first time you put yourself out there it will get easier.
