You can work part time and if your income is low it will not effect your benefits (they also want you to tell them whenever you obtain any work assignments)--read the social security administration's pamphlet below on working while disabled here in order to ensure you get the correct information:

I feel like it is good for our mental health if we explore part time jobs in order to find something we enjoy doing or can become competent at doing. I am on disability but work part time whenever I can. The earnings are low enough that they have never effected my disability payments and the money is always needed.
I know there are some people who may need to be on disability for the rest of their lives but for some people it might be good to think of unemployment and/or disability payments as an opportunity to explore other jobs/hobbies/volunteer gigs/self education/etc. in hopes of improving your lot in life. I hope to eventually find a job that I can handle (one that doesn't trigger my MI the way some of the call center jobs I was doing were) and that supports me.
