Did you know that while the hippopotamus is a herbivore and normally dines on grasses along the banks of the rivers where they live, male hippos are known on the very rare occasion to attack and eat hippo calves if they have one spec of suspicion that they didn't father it? There have also been reports of hippos eating carrion if they find it along the river they inhabit, though this behavior is especially rare.

Did you know that dogs aren't carnivores like their wolf ancestors, but have evolved from them to adopt a more omnivorous diet? They can and do eat a variety of vegetables, which is thought to stem from the fact that they don't have access to herbivorous prey and the stomach contents within them.
