Usually doctors don't recommend ECT lightly. Since meds don't seem to be working that is logically the next choice.
I had ECT about 3 years ago. Considering the state of mind I was in at the time, it helped. There can be some memory loss. Also the results are not necessarily forever.
For me the worst part of the treatment was the IV. I hate needles. It only takes about 15-30 minutes for the entire procedure. Sometimes I had a headache afterwards.
Only you can make the decision whether ECT is right for you. However, if none of the med cocktails you have taken so far worked it might be a good option.
