I would do the department store. I was scared like you when I graduated college, didn't know how to go out and where to get a job and went to Sears and it seemed a bit easier because there were routines and forms to fill out and not so much "personal" talking to people. Plus they needed more people (so the chance of getting job was better) and the chances of them having other employees my age was better, etc.
