Our house was hit by lightning once. It ruined most of the appliances-fridge, oven, air conditioning, microwave, dishwasher. The weird thing was that some of the appliances did not die right away; our insurance guy told us this is normal for lightning. It also broke some of the light bulbs that were in ceiling fixtures.

I was gone at the time, it was really weird coming home to the broken glass around the lights (not all of them, just some) and to some stuff not working. Our dog was home alone at the time. From that point on, if he heard the least little bit of thunder, he wanted to lie on top of me and shake. I would let him, because well, trauma. This was before there were thundershirts for dogs.

Fireworks never did bother that dog, just thunder.
