I don't intend to sound unsupportive in any way, but reading your post as an onlooker it made me think this initially. I wonder if your unconcious mind ignored the appointment calls because you wanted some sort of support/care/understanding from them? You must have realised that they would be concerned about you? They also have a duty of care, which is exactly what they did. I don't feel under the circumstances, they were wrong in any way at all. I'm sure in your professional capacity, you would do exactly the same. I think it shows just how much they cared, to follow this through! You got affirmation of their care, even if it wasn't quite how you would have liked it to be!
