I didn't know that story, jinny. It perhaps gives some context to an incident I witnessed recently. I attended a public lecture given by a genetic counselor at the public library. Afterwards, there were questions from the audience. A man in the audience raised his hand, and when called upon, he extended his arm holding in his palm an intricate lotus flower folded out of paper (like origami). As he asked his question, he explained the flower he held was a lotus, and he held it out as he spoke his words. His question was incomprehensible to me.
