I am a 50 year old high level professional. I was recently hospitalized for extreme suicidal tendencies and racing thoughts. I spoke with the doctor for 40 minutes and was diagnosed as bipolar. I am now taking lamictal and abilify.

What I cannot figure is how the suicidal tendencies work into. Fifteen hours before I they hit, I started a new medication; fluvoxamine (50 mg).

On the drug information sheet provided by my druggist, it states for possible side effect: If you experience severe nervousness, anxiety, agitation …. Worsening feelings of depression, thoughts of hurting yourself … [Contact your doctor].

Within another 10 hours, all thoughts of suicide had disappeared and I haven’t had one since.

Whenever I mention this published side effect, the doctor ignores my comment. What am I missing?
