Someone alluded to the fact that he needs to drink to bring up emotions and thoughts that are suppressed. This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say this. They've been a drinker for a long time and know that some people drink to run away from or bury their problems. This person, the complete opposite. Says that alcohol can be therapeutic.

Anyone here ever experience this or heard of it before?

I can appreciate the fact that he brings up feelings and deals with them. I don't want to judge what a person does to survive. However, he isn't a good drinker. I believe the current situation he keeps himself in, and problems/hurts from the past several years led to this. He can better his situation, but he doesn't. I can no longer help him.
