My dad Majored in Mathematics in college, and when I was showing signs of struggling with it way back in elementary school, he took it upon himself to tutor me. You'd think that would work out with the legacy of his mother being a school teacher herself and all.

As it turned out, however, his rather short temper (which I inherited unfortunately) and lack of being able to understand that some people just can't get the utmost basic and simplistic parts of Math, well, it led to some very long evenings with a lot of yelling back and forth and crying on my part. Usually the phrase "What part don't you understand?" was said to me by him at some point during the chaos.

So, because of this "conditioning", I never developed a love of Math. I can respect those who do though, because without them, we'd never have developed the world of Physics, and thus, know next to nothing of the world around us, of how the planets and stars move and interact in our own Galaxy, and how our galaxy and many others move and interact in this vast Universe.

I love watching shows like "Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman" just to see the ways Physicists use Mathematics to help explain not just human nature, but environmental nature on a variety of scales. It's fascinating how you can plug some formulas into an equation, solve it, and discover something new and exciting about our world and how we perceive it.

So yeah, while I won't be solving Math problems for pleasure any time soon, I'll always respect it as a crucial part of what Humanity has evolved to do: use our innate and very strong sense of curiosity to explore, discover and gain as much knowledge about everything around us we possibly can.
