Lawrence of Arabia tests the patience of some young people but then again, it's such a great film and the cinematography is so compelling, maybe they'd dig it.
The Fly. A David Cronenberg classic. Thumbs up on this one.
Yoda's list is brilliant so I second those nominations.
Here's a few more:
The Thing
The Shining
Harold & Maude
Heathers
Cabaret
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
City Of God
Wings Of Desire
Chinatown
Lonestar
Miller's Crossing
Rain Man
High Noon
Life Is Beautiful
The Exorcist
Casablanca
LA Confidential
Misery
And of course, Cyrano de Bergerac (French version starring Gerard Depardieu, 1990).
So those were the first titles that came to mind. And really, I can do this all day. But what I most recommend is renting them with your kids (if that's an option). I always enjoy picking movies with my kids.
