Since there is no FDA approved indication for ketamine treating deppresion there is no insurance coverage for treatment , but doctors are free to prescribe any drug "off label" for anything , so pop up ketamine infusion clinics are all the rage in major cities with Doctors using it "off label" for ridiculous outrageous sums of money, it is basicly the get rich quick scheme for ethically challenged doctors, I say that because its true and shamefull because ketamine although helps in the short term it loses effectiveness the more you use it , and we know over the long term Ketamine has dangerous adverse effects on the bladder causing intense pain, bladder wall scarring and incontinence. In studies to narrow down why ? Has shown that metabolized Ketamine is just incompatible with the cells of the bladder causing detrimental changes with each exposure .
Although thousands of researchers are attempting to narrow down the mood elevating features into a safer drug , because they see a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow ( a high priced patented drug to make huge profits off of ) .
"There Is no free lunch" ultimately if you are minutes away from suicide and have the money go for it ,but realize you need a plan b because the more you use it the less you get from it as far as mood elevation, so for short term it has the potential to be life saving, but you better be working the equation in other ways at the same time with intensive out patient therapy and other drug treatment's. Currently infusion clinics run around $3,000 to $10,000 a visit for sub anesthetic dosage ketamine treatment, which also if done wrong can leave you psychotic , hallucinating , and violent to a small or larger degree depending on your body .
Not every doctor is an anesthesiologist trained to properly use this drug, and in many pop up clinics the doctor doing it can be anything from a dermatologist to an oncologist (I am not bad mouthing any of these specialist doctors) but I am warning the doctor you get may not be the guy you want doing this, before you commit to anything ask the hard questions and shop around , done wrong it can land you in the hospital for an even more expensive bill , perfect example of what I am saying is Joan Rivers had she been in a proper ethical clinic with care providers who had proper training and equipment she would be still entertaining people with jokes instead of sending a warning from the grave .

( I hate telling people this , but nobody who lies to you is your friend or helping you in any way! )
