I have been on Risperdal, but not Zyprexa. Both are mild anti-psychotics. Zyprexa is more potent and effective. It is the next in line after Risperdal. The emotional numbing effect is something that comes with any anti-psychotic. I would rather put it as "emotions becoming blurred", and the feeling of "meh" towards everything. At least I wouldn't get startled, and there was no room for any intrusive thoughts.

According to my sister, the sedation and most side effects comes only on the first few weeks on an anti-psychotic. Weight gain, low-libido and increase in prolactin are prolonged side-effects.
