As Jennifer wrote, psychiatrists often leave a few appointment times open for emergencies. I know mine does because I've used them on a couple of occasions in the past. In my case, my health insurance provider was helpful in getting me in on one occasion. So if you now do have health insurance, perhaps your insurer could help to get you in the door.
