on that bar at the bottom of the forum pages? you can hide it....

there is 4 boxes one says chat, then chat rooms then the notifications then there is this arrow for hiding chat. clicking on that arrow will hide (collapse the whole bar except the arrow, then when you click on the arrow again it will show you the chat bar again...
