in short the first one is having dissociation problems that have less than marked discontinuity in problems and no amnesia... in other words alters dont take control and you dont have any memory problems , memory loss, amnesia like symptoms.
in short the second one is for having dissociation problems due to brain washing, thought reform, torture from cults/ sects and political prisons/ political terrorism. example Guantanamo bay survivors, survivors of prisoners of war, FLDS cult.... where memories are that of what the abusers have programmed into their victims. they remember their live before being captured, indoctrinated, tortured but because of the brainwashing techniques the past memories feel unreal or wrong and the present memories feel real and right. many people in this situation have to undergo deprogramming therapy.
in short the third criteria does have whats called ....micro amnesia. this has nothing to do with alters and the like. its where due to extreme stress a person will have acute (meaning its a limited event not chronic meaning not happening every time) dissociative reactions.... example sometimes I will be stressed out with a sick child, a meeting at work and a court date to attend. my stress reaction is to feel numb spaced out and disconnected and get everything done while my mind is on automatic. when everything gets done I have small gaps in my memories about these stressful events. but this reaction doesnt happen every time my child is sick and doesnt happen every time i have meetings and court dates.
the last category in this disorder is dissociative trance. this is similar to being catatonic where your mind just shuts down or off. but it is limited (acute) not long
term like catatonia with psychosis disorders....you are not aware of some or all of whats around you, or those around you, you are not aware of some or all of whats going on around you. un responsive.... example of dissociative trance in me was when i was notified that an abuser was being paroled from prison. that abuser had threatened harm to me and my family upon his release. I sat there hold the notification letter staring at the letter but not seeing it, my mind was completely blank, I could not stand up nor put the letter down. i could barely hear my wife say its going to be ok, could barely hear my children in the other room, could barely feel my wife take the letter, could barely feel my wife put her arms around me.
ANP and EP are terms not used here where I am associated with DID. here where I am its part of a therapy approach called Structural Dissociation theory. here where I am this is used with things like PTSD, Anxiety disorders and so on.
Here where I am we use the term sense of agency and not limit/ define alters as being just emotional or just appearing to be normal. here where I am sense of agency better applies because here DID type alters can both perform normal things and present with emotions and feelings at the same time.
example rainy who was my emotional alter for depression, sadness, could also dress herself, make a snack, wash up play with her toys watch tv and other normal things that normal people do.

Wow, thank you for that explanation....it definitely answered some unknowns confirming what I know to be true...just wasn't sure what the bottom line was.
I've experienced 3&4, but my condition is so much more as expressed through the past year or years. This helps a lot.
You must be at a real keyboard, lol.
